Purpose and Leadership
The following are instructions on how Patrols can plan for
a Troop campout
WHO IS IN CHARGE: The Patrol Leader is in charge of
making the Patrol’s plans for the campout, assigning the Grubmaster, planning
the Menu and Duty Roster for the campout.
JUNIOR LEADERS INVOLVED: PL, APL, Troop Guide
During the Patrol
Meeting Prior to the Campout
- Find out whom from the Patrol is planning on
attending.
- Plan the Patrol Duty Roster based on the number of
meals and Scouts expected to attend.
- Choose a Grubmaster to buy food for the campout. Check
first to see who needs this requirement.
- Plan a menu for the campout. Consider weight and water
when needed.

Before the
Campout
- Make sure to check the Patrol Box prior to the campout
make sure it is clean and has all needed supplies for the campout.
- Check Patrol’s tents to make sure they are ready for
the campout.
- Make sure Grubmaster has purchased food.
- Turn in Menu and Duty Roster the Tuesday prior to the
campout.

Preparing to Leave From the
Scout Shack
- Make a final check of Patrol Box.
- Make sure that Patrol Box and ice chests are loaded
first.
- Make sure that everyone in the Patrol has a tent
partner and a tent. Scouts should have a tent partner from their Patrol. If
the campout is a backpack and there is an odd number of Scouts in the Patrol
then a Scout may share a tent with a Scout from another Patrol that has an
odd number.
- Make sure each tent has a ground cloth and is complete
before loading.
- Load all personal gear.
- Make sure that all Patrol members have checked in and
know which vehicle they will be traveling in.
- Call any expected Patrol members who are not present
and confirm that they are coming.

During the
Campout
- Wait for instructions from SPL as to where to set up
Patrol campsite.
- Check with SPL for campout schedule and brief Patrol
with schedule.
- Make sure that Patrol campsite is properly set up,
including tents. Be sure that tent bags and parts are properly stored.
- Take out the Patrol Box from the Troop trailer and set
it up in the Patrol’s cooking area.
- PL should ensure that all Patrol members have set up
their tents properly and have there gear from the Troop trailer.
- PL is responsible to make sure that Patrol is where
they need to be on time.
- PL is responsible to make sure that Patrol cooking
area and campsite are kept clean.

Returning to the Scout Shack
- PL needs to make sure that all leftover food is
properly disposed of, stored, or taken home.
- PL needs to assign Scouts to take items from Patrol
Box home for cleaning.
- PL needs to make sure that all Patrol tents and
equipment are put away.

After the
Campout
- PL should make sure that all Patrol equipment taken
home for cleaning is returned and stored.
- PL should get feedback from Patrol members about
campout to present at the next PLC meeting.
