MATCH POLICY

Effective immediately, no Scout under the age of 18 may have matches, lighters, or any other fire starting materials in their possession at any Scout activity. Scouts will be issued sealed EMERGENCY match containers to be placed in their survival kit to use in the event that they become lost on a hike. If a Scout breaks the seal on the container, they must immediately notify an adult leader.

Scouts will get matches, when needed for cooking, fire building, ect. from an adult leader. Any Scout found with matches, lighters, or any other fire starting materials such as flint and steel in their possession may be sent home and / or suspended from the Troop. Matches are only to be used when issued by an adult leader to start a stove or light an adult approved fire.

This action has become necessary due to several Scouts playing with matches on the last campout. The Scouts continued to play with matches even after they were told to stop.

This policy will be added to the Troop’s Outing Guidelines.
