General Information (11/26/06)
The Second Biannual Senior Wilderness Survival Trip will be held
Memorial Day Weekend, May 26 - 28, 2007. This is a very realistic wilderness
survival experience held over a three-day weekend. Most of the information about
the weekend is kept from the participants until they arrive at the secret
location. Seniors that attend the weekend will first go through wilderness
survival training on Wednesday nights in the months prior to the weekend.
This year's wilderness survival weekend will be different from the first one.
Most of the differences will not be revealed until the weekend begins. One
change is that Scouts from Troop 110 in Beverly Hills will be attending the
weekend with us and attending the Wednesday training sessions.
There will be a Phase II for Scouts that attended the first wilderness survival
weekend. Scouts that attended the first weekend may also volunteer to be on
Staff for this weekend. I would also like honest feedback about the experience
and new ideas that you have to improve and change the experience from Scouts
that attended the first weekend. Please send me your input, ideas, and let me
know if you would like to do Phase II or be on Staff for 2007.
SCOUTS THAT ATTENDED THE FIRST WEEKEND ARE
REMINDED NOT TO DISCUSS WHAT WENT ON WITH ANYONE AS TO NOT RUIN THE EXPERIENCE
FOR THIS YEAR'S GROUP.
Parents are let in on the details before the weekend at a parent meeting. We
also need adults to attend and also drive Scouts to the location
REQUIREMENTS TO PARTICIPATE
Scouts must be at least 14 years old and in the Senior Patrol by February 1,
2007 to attend.
All Scouts must attend a majority of the Wednesday training sessions starting at
7:30 PM. There will be no more than 3 trainings per a month from January to May.
Scouts must be able to attend the weekend training on March 24 and 25, 2007 at
Camp Firestone
Scouts must complete major school projects prior to Memorial Day Weekend. You
will not have time to do major projects on the Survival Weekend. You may be able
to do basic homework that weekend. Plan ahead.
Scouts must be able to attend pre-weekend meetings on Wednesday, May 23rd at
7:30 PM for Final Briefing, Friday, May 25th at 5 PM for Equipment Check, and
the Survival Weekend Saturday, May 26th at 6 AM to Monday, May 28th at 9 PM.
Parents must attend Parent Meeting on Wednesday, May 16th at 7:30 PM.
Cost for this weekend is tentatively set at $60 per Scout.
INDIVIDUAL MEETINGS
Individual interviews will be held in November and December for Scouts
interested in participating. During these interviews, prospective Scouts will
get a good idea of what may happen during the weekend. Information about
participants will also be taken to be used to organize and plan the weekend.
After the interview, Scouts can decide if they want to commit to the trip.
There will be another individual meeting closer to the trip to do a skills
assessment.
